See if your church has a copy?! I can't imagine why a church would have a copy...that would be a little like a church keeping porn on hand. You can borrow a copy from a library, buy one in a bookstore or get one free from Muslim associations.

FL, the US isn't the same as The Socialist States of Canada. The US govt. doesn't have complete control of the churches, yet.

The round earth conspirators are keeping a close eye on you, FL. Don't think we've let you slip away.

I didn't mean the actual church but they people who go there.

Oh...OK. Even so, I can't imagine why a literary scholar would have a Koran as it is a pretty crappy read. If you do get your hands on a copy, read Sura 2:40-86; it is about Jews and Christians and is seething with contempt.

Yeah...Canada is a crappy country. My wife and I are looking into returning to Switzerland which is - without a doubt - the Best Place on God's Flat Earth.

Why is that so strange to you? I have 13 of them. If you wanna honestly comment on something you better had read it.

And that is exactly why I want to read it.

I find it strange that a literary scholar would have a Koran because it is a bad book. It is bad from a literary standpoint. It is a piece of literary junk. It is a boring read. Calling the Koran ''literature'' would be like calling Playboy investigative journalism.

Why do you have 13 Korans anyway??? Do you collect other types of junk or is the Koran collection your only obsession???

My public library in my town has a copy. But I've done enough research on Islam that I know I want to stay as far away from it as I can.

I am certain I will reach the same conclusion, but I want to be ready to answer any questions that may come from an muslim.

Come on guys an ancient writing always deserves respect no matter what opinions you have of the ideas held within. Junk? Stay away from it?

You took my ''junk'' comment out of context! This is what I said,
Furstentum Liechtenstein wrote:Why do you have 13 Korans anyway??? Do you collect other types of junk or is the Koran collection your only obsession???
...and previously, I said that the Koran is bad literature & a boring read. So, why anyone would have 13 copies of a poorly-written book is beyond my understanding. I can understand someone owning a couple of translations...but why 13?

For a Christian, the Koran is good to have, read and understand. The ''junk'' is in the quantity of copies.

It very easy to form a layman perception without thinking of other issues, factors and reasons that could result in me having thirteen korans. I suggest you do invest sometime on literary criticism before you assume how it is done. A good rule is to simply ask rather then spew out your dislike. Your statement assumes things without verifying my take on it.

FWIW I have 13 Korans for a reason, I have the copies which are quite different in their translations and language, all published by different companies, even a couple which were made but then banned latter. I even have one which is more than a century old. And the differences are quite wide between the old and the new. As a matter of fact, whole different meanings could be extracted due to the language and tone that has changed over time. But the primary reasons I have is because I can show them to Muslims who insist on the unchanging aspect of the book. they can study it and know that what they think and are offered at all times isnt true all the time. Gets easy to convey to them a lot of stuff if they come to realize that may be needing more then what they think they know.

I'd love to see the rest of your library! How many books do you have, Neo?

Why were they banned?

What are some of the more significant differences?

When I said I would "stay away" I should have written, I would not use it in conjunction with the Bible as a source of God's word.
I would read it as study material so when I get a chance to talk to a muslum I would at least have a little understanding of what their scripture says.

Calm down! If you continue like this you'll have serious health problems by the time you're in your thirties. Some things are not worth the bother.

So, I got that you have 13 Korans for the reasons you stated. It still seems bizarre, though. Since you are 25, I'll assume that most of the people you meet are around 25; I seriously doubt most Muslims around 25 have enough introspection and humility to consider that the Koran is flawed, even if presented with evidence. Been there, done that.

Carry on.

Do not remember you saying that you would stay away. I was pinting to someone else. We just have to watch our critisisms before reading and study of the text since that is what we do not want other people doing the same to us.
