If you heard that it was from a social conservative using it as a straw man. If all you want is to be offended then great, there you go. If, however, you want to actually understand how real, living, breathing, contemporary, mainstream liberals see things then that garbage is worse than useless.abelcainsbrother wrote:Yeah I've heard that political mantra before basically anyone who is against illegal immigration especially when we have islamic terrorism going on in the west and our border is open to them too is a racist.
abelcainsbrother wrote:Everyday we hear about more terrorist attacks just like in Germany New years eve night when German women were raped by some of these muslim refugees that were allowed to enter Germany and the German government told the women that were raped they needed to cover up more and dress more covered up.Or the Islamic terrorist in France a day or two ago who pulled a knife shouted Allah ak.. and was shot dead by police.
We also hear about non-Muslim Americans going on kill-crazy rampages all the time, but for some reason that's not a big deal. Why is it that conservatives worry so much more about the remote possibility of getting shot by a Muslim than the much greater possibility of getting shot by a fellow American with no ties to Islam whatsoever? Why is there so little concern about the American terrorist who shot up that Planned Parenthood clinic?
If Latino voters are perceiving Republican talking points and policies as racist then politically correct liberals have nothing to do with it - the issue is between the Republicans and the voters that they're offending. Personally I find the whole thing delightful, so I hope they keep it up. Trump 2016!abelcainsbrother wrote:Trump is winning and that political correctness your talking will not work.
Also, the political correctness that you're attacking is yet another straw man constructed by social conservatives. It's odd, really. You seem like a nice enough guy, but you have this weird blind spot there. All political correctness actually says is "don't be a racist, homophobic, misogynistic a-hole," and the reason that's being said is that for a long, long, long time a lot of (mostly) white, Anglo-Saxon, Christian guys behaved that way with no consequences. Don't believe me? Look at Martin and Sinatra on stage making racist cracks about Sammy Davis Jr to standing ovations. Check out some TV shows from the 50's and 60's. Think about Archie Bunker and how many guys you've met who are just like him. Consider the massive success of the comedy of Andrew Dice Clay or the music of 2 Live Crew. Watch this actual, real Goodyear commercial and consider how it might feel to be a woman living in a culture that would put that on television. Add it all together and you wind up with a lot of people - the majority, in fact - who feel insulted and marginalized and are pretty angry about it. The result is push back, and the form that it took is political correctness.
Does PC ever go overboard? Yes, obviously, it does. I recall the story of a manager who told his staff that money was tight and they'd have to be "niggardly" with their spending that year. His staff complained about his racism, and he got canned, despite the fact that the word "niggardly" means "stingy," has roots on Old Norse, and has no racial connotations whatsoever. So yeah, a guy got canned due to a knee-jerk, PC freak-out. That's stupid and wrong, but it doesn't change the fact that it's not okay to be a racist, homophobic, misogynistic a-hole, at least if you're at work.
