Sorry 'bout that. My comment was a sarcastic critique of politically-correct American liberalism. I think you misunderstood me.

Because of all the "oh no, don't be mean to those poor minorities!" ideals, a person who is white, male, and Christian is almost never the "victim"--as evaluated by the public--of a hate crime.

I mean, if a Jewish or Hindu of Muslim temple was vandalized, it's a hate crime. But as soon as someone rips the head off of a Virgin Mary statue and covers the body in black paint, it's just regular old vandalism. (Yep, my parish). How many white people who've been beaten up by other ethnicities have been labeled "victims of a hate crime"?

It just severely P.O.s me to see how the "majority" are punked because they're the majority... and I say this as someone who's not really the "majority"!

Tolerance:
Old definition: Willingness to listen to the beliefs and values of others, even if you disagree with them.

New definition: Full acceptance as true of all the beliefs and values of others, even when they contradict each other. Except for beliefs and values that contradict this definiton of "tolerance". Specifically, you must hate Christians with a passion or you are "intolerant".

(Warning: this is a sarcastic rant)

You may have been sarcastic, but that's so close to the truth, and becoming more so with each passing day.

Also, have you noticed that it's only Christianity that's attacked by advocates of "tolerance?" Religions such as Judaism and Islam are praised as "not Christianity," yet are just as intolerant(in much the same ways) as Christianity. Especially in the most common area of debate -- homosexuality.

"Islam is a religion of peace! Judaism is so here and now!" Yeah, well, both of them still say that your being gay is wrong, and are even harsher than Christianity on it, so I don't know what you're so happy about.

That last comment was my thoughts on the matter, not directed at any particular person. "Tolerance," don't make me laugh.

Jerick, I have been completely offended by your sarcasm. Since your statements were not politcally correct--yet true--I demand that you retract that incendiary language.

You especially have to like the debate between gay activists and NARTH.

Gay activists: Gays need moral autonomy. Counselors should give them "gay affirmative" therapy so they don't feel so opressed.

NARTH: Actually, we should give them a choice between "gay affirmative" and "reparative" therapy intended to change their attractions.

Gay activists: You want to give them a choice? That's just unethical intolerant hate speech!

And NARTH even seems more pluralistic than Christian in some respects!

You guys are funny. I like y'all.

Forge, sorry for the misunderstanding. I thought we were on opposite sides of the fence, but it turns out we live in the same house! (Hey, you forgot to put a new roll of toilet paper on!) I appreciate your stance very much.

What's NARTH?

NARTH is the National Association for Research & Therapy of Homosexuality. They are a scientifically-driven professional organization that believes, among other things, that homosexuality is largely determined by environmental factors and that it can be reversed through therapy.

This stands in contrast to many other organizations, such as both "APA's" (the American Psychological and Psychiatric organizations), who believe that homosexuality cannot be changed and that attempts to change it through therapy are useless and harmful. The APAs have published several studies, funded by gay activists, which support their conclusions. (Because of their source of funding, they are about as trustworthy as Microsoft's studies concluding that Windows is better than Linux.)

NARTH also believes that homosexuality is dangerous from both medical and psychological perspectives and that gay marriage is a poor structure for raising families and thus should not be legalized. However, they respect the "right" of gays to identify themselves as gay and to live a homosexual lifestyle.

NARTH is a secular organization, but their articles include viewpoints from Christian, Muslim, Jewish, and several other perspectives. They believe that the values of clients, whatever they may be, should be the primary determining factor in what therapy to apply.

I'm not in any way affiliated with NARTH, this is just what I picked up from their web site.

Thank you. I'm glad there's somthing secular out there that agrees it's unnatural and harmful. I had never heard of any organization like that before.

One thing we all have to realize though, is that it's no suprise that Christians are oppressed. We are not of the world, after all. Jesus explained Himself why the world can be fine with Muslims and yet hate Christians. :)

I also should point out that the Jewish population has also had it's fair share of oppression, and that's obviously a huge understatement.

Well, I was using sarcasm to attack a truth that I find very, very maddening. :)

Yeah, I've noticed the blind eye to other religions too. I mean, Islam, as a religion at large, does not allow the Koran to be read in any other language. I'm not saying that it's wrong or not, but that's "interolant", right? I mean, what if those border-hopping Hispanics want to be Muslim? Ugh.

Oh, I agree with you, mate. Tolerance is a good thing. But when it turns into definition 2, it becomes stupid.

Wow...I do believe I've found a home here :). To echo Kateliz, I like y'all too. Seriously, I was expecting a barrage of hate mail after my comment about being un-PC, but it looks like I'm not such a minority here after all :).
LittleShepard, God bless you, brother. It is a beautiful thing when a homosexual repents. It takes a man of strong faith and courage to do that rather than buy into the liberal views which advocates "easy believism" which means one can pray a sinners prayer then turn around and continue their old ways. Saving faith changes a person and those changes are strong evidence of a changed heart transformed by the Spirit. This post just made my day :).

Forgot to mention...since we are also talking about tolerance, I am a big advocate of definition #1. "Tolerance", as defined by the socialist far left goes far beyond websters' definition...it is forced accceptance of deviant behavior as "normal" under penalty of ostricism to those who dare voice a dissenting opinion. Funny how "tolerance" actually means the opposite in this case. Anyone here ever read George Orwell's 1984? Doublethink, it seems, is alive and well today.

Excellent.

I would also like to add this: See if a type 2 tolerant person accepts intolerant people. Isn't that being intolerant? Thse hypocrisy is almost blinding.
