Hello everyone,

I stumbled across your site today, perused a few topics and thought I'd join. Yes I'm an atheist, no I'm not anti-theist. I have a strong interest in early Christianity (former Eastern Orthodox Christian here) and critical biblical scholarship.

Are you actually an atheist or more an agnostic?
I look forward to having some respectful debates with you (I may not be around much for a little while as my dad is terminally ill but some healthy debate will help me focus on things other than my grief)
If there really is no God, how did we, and something as intricate as DNA come to be?

Hello,

Sorry to hear about your father.

I'm an atheist in the sense that I don't accept any human stories about god or gods, but will also take the agnostic position that it would be very difficult to know with certainty anyway, so soft-atheist? I'm also not a strict materialist so is that wishy-washy enough?

As for how we came to be (with or without God(s)), while I accept the science and arguments for an ancient earth and evolution, I don't work myself into a tizzy worrying about things which we have found little geological evidence for nor do I expect there to be any answers anytime soon given the instability of that particular molecule, the state of the oldest rocks, and current technology.

You mentioned being a former Eastern Orthordox Christian, I don't really know what that entails. Are you saying you used to be a Christian but you aren't now?
Do you believe Christ is divine?
I'm still figuring where I stand on evolution and I'm utterly fascinated with quantum physics (I find it hard to grasp but endlessly intriguing).
As for answers, I believe every question, and answer, leads to God.

Welcome, Celsus! You're in the right place to test what can be known vs. whatever you might happen to believe.

Welcome here, Celsus.

Hello, my name is Jason, and I've been a Christian for many years. I've also been an old-earth creationist (day-age) since the mid-2000's. I enjoy Rich Deem's God and Science page and wanted to drop in and post a few things and learn some new stuff and meet some new people. :-)
