Just wondering what the implications of actions such as these are. Does this negate or counterbalance the effect of having scientists support intelligent design and/or creationism?

Neither. It shows a growing belief among Christians that science points to God rather than away from Him. The story reported is that 10,000 members of the clergy have attested a belief in evolution. The real story is that Christians are increasingly losing their fear of science and are beginning to see that science gives cause to strengthen their faith rather than shake it.
There are roughly 225,000,000 Christians in the United States, of which about 10,000,000 are clergy in one denomination or another. Showing that 10,000 believe in evolution shows what? One tenth of a percent?
Besides which, the article doesn't specify whether they are talking about micro-evolution or macro-evolution. Everyone believes in micro-evolution.
