It's funny how it takes a whole year for this information to reach the public.

Yes it's a serious concern, a rise in ocean Ph has the potential to dramitically alter the base of the ocean food chain.

However it is possible that as some varieties of plankton will suffer greatly, that other species such a diatoms will just take their place. Larger lifeforms are mobile and will try to relocate if possible. However along with the current stresses of commercial fishing and pollution, it might just be too much and cause a collapse in the chain.

There is no doubt that the oceans ecology will be altered in dramatic and unpredictable ways.
