Please pardon the ignorance but can someone explain the usage and the meaning of the subject line above, every time someone writes the word Mohammed?

Why when they write the word Modammed (for their prophet) they must then write, peace be upon him (PBUH)? :?

It's an acronym for Peace Be Upon Him.

Muslims claim Mohommed to be a prophet, but in view of their elevated view of him as the most important and the last prophet, this is a formula they employ to show him respect.
