On our church's Christmas Eve service I have been asked to do a brief talk
on What Christmas means to Me.

So I was hoping to ask some of you What Christmas Means to You?

I will post later more of what it means to me.

For me, more on commonality: Giving to others (without expecting to receive anything back).

I know we all talk about giving which is true, but there is also the receiving
of the greatest gift that Jesus gave us.
All we have to do is accept it.
Many in this world keeping refusing it.

Christmas: a divine holiday celebrating the light of the world (Jesus Christ) that is currently used for secular materiallistic purposes (ie: material things such as presents...)

Jen, forget December 25th. What does the birth of Christ mean to you?

The birth of Christ means the birth of our Savior, naturally. I guess my main problem is that I feel too many seem to focus on WHEN He was born, instead of WHY. And the main point of His being born was for Him to die for us. I feel if we are going to celebrate a day, why not make it the day of His DEATH? But my original comment was meant to be a joke, not to be taken seriously. :egeek:

We do! Easter celebrates not only His death but more importantly His resurrection!!

WE're not obsessed with the time, but celebrate the fact that Christ humbld HImself for us. It merely is a time to come together and rejoice.

I knew you'd jump in here sometime, Zoe! :ewink: I won't go into detail here, but will leave it simply saying that Easter is also condemned by God Himself. But we are getting WAY too serious about a comment I meant as a joke. :D

It means Christ's Mass-a Catholic Mass service branded with Christ's name to get all the world in the Catholic system and festivals

Good grief!! Why in the world are we still fussing about this....!??!!

Whether or not these holidays CAME originally from pagan or Catholic (gasp!) traditions, why does this invalidate their meaning to us now?!?!?!?

We celebrate Christ's resurrection and power over sin....To be honest, I am happy that those early Christians DID take over those pagan holidays and change their meaning. I think it is an amazing thing that Christ in a culture can turn that culture around and change the meanings of the days and celebrations.

We celebrate Christ's incarnation now INSTEAD of some pagan superstition. What a wonderful indication of Christ's work and power throughout the people in history.

Amen....looking forward to celebrating the Lord's day every Sunday but I am especially looking forward to rejoicing with my fellow Christians on Easter Sunday...."HE IS RISEN!!"

I would love to sing Easter hymns every Sunday!!!
