Oh boy...

your name is Roger, too...and you're 51 years old, too.

Am I in the Twilight Zone???

If they had a social gospel in the days of the prodigal son, somebody would have given him a bed and a sandwich and he never would have gone home.

I find it interesting that this thread has gone nowhere...just two Rogers talking to each other and nobody else chiming in. I didn't even know that F. Day had come & gone until my mother-in-law sent me a greeting card which arrived by snail mail one week late. My son - who is 29 - ignored F. Day (my own father died in 2002).

Fatherhood seems less important now...is this symptomatic of the culture we are living in?

I think so, just as a sneeze is a symptom of a larger problem-a cold-it seems our culture is beginning to erode from the family values once considered very important. Affecting more than fatherhood it seems to permeate all aspects of family life, relationships outside the family, in the workplace, at play, etc. These symptoms indicate a much larger infection.

A few years ago, I was listening to a message by Ravi Zacharias on the radio about how our culture is disintegrating:

In the fifties, we lost our innocence. The war was over, higher paying jobs were springing up all around the country and the media was coming on with new products, new music, and a different lifestyle had become the norm.

In the sixties we lost love. We replaced it with sex and although the two were not the same, no-one noticed.

In the seventies we lost authority. Law enforcement, educators, politicians, and parental influence were all brought into question.

In the eighties we became the "me" generation. no-one else mattered just so "I" get what "I" want. All relationships suffered.

In the nineties we lost our capacity to think. The media had become so invasive it practically took over for us. You need this and you need that and this will make you so much happier and I will do for you what no-one else can ad infinitum.

When asked what one should say about the current generation, a leading scientist in a study of what people were doing in the information age, he said; "This might be the dumbest generation ever!" He added that while this is the era of instant information, most people are seeking entertainment and games.

This isn't a quote of that message but I'm sure you get the idea of what has come along in such a short time to bring about a culture that is on a slippery slope with an incline that is seemingly very sharp.

It's not just our children- it's everything else.

btw; HAPPY BELATED FATHERS DAY ROGER!

my dad had the opposite experience. Everywhere he went that day, even total strangers would tell him happy fathers day. It was weird. Weird enough fo rme to notice, at least!

Why not pray it? I did for my Mother on Mothers Day. I wasn't praying directly to her but through Jesus our Lord.

I felt there was nothing wrong with sending a message to Heaven.
