Adam and Eve

Post by kurtney64 »

I am new to this site and have MANY questions.... but I will start off with one.

I have searched through this site and it tends to make sense to me. Although I am definitely not a science minded person, the information on this site is explained in a way I tend to understand. One question that has arisen in my mind, that I can not seem to find an answer about, is Adam and Eve. I understand how the account of creation in Genesis correlates with the scientific evidence we have today, but I don't understand how Adam and Eve fit in. It says in Genesis that God created Eve from Adam's rib and that they were the first humans. Doesn't that completely contradict the scientific evidence we have? Also if Adam and Eve were the first humans where did they come in, were they Neanderthals? Also... once Adam and Eve were given the knowledge of good and evil they became ashamed of their nakedness and knew they should cloth themselves... doesn't this contradict that fact that some remote cultures still don't wear clothing?

Also... I would love to hear an interpretation of the story of Satan as a snake in the garden of Eden. Was this a literal story? Did Satan really come into the garden as a snake?

Any insight someone could give me would be great!

Most Christians would agree that the Garden of Eden is a literal story, however, a number of people (like me) believe that Satan did NOT come into the garden as a snake.. It all boils down on how you interpret the Hebrew word "nachash" which actually means a shining, guardian cherub of "serpentine" appearance but not a literal snake...
