Earthquakes and Natural Disasters

Post by roysan78 »

If God does exist, I've often wondered "Why do earthquakes, tsunami's, tornado's, etc"...come about? Why does God allow those to come about? Why would he create a world that would have these things? Is it even God, or is it mother nature?

Scientific reasons aside, God might also use natural phenomena to display His power, and to help lead people to trust in Him, rather than their depraved selves. Think of how many amazing testimonies can erupt from survival stories. Think of how the better parts of our nature (sympathy, i.e.) come out when we see others that have suffered from destruction. I don't think there is anything evil in natural distasters themselves, and you can't really accuse God of letting people die. People die everday. They deserve death, and brought it on themselves through their sin. Also, if even fewer people died than already do, overpopulation would be a problem. Would God then be evil for allowing Earth to be overpopulated? And perhaps He uses things to humble "high and mighty" humanity by reminding them of their mortality. Hmm...maybe, just MAYBE, the Creator of the universe knows what He's doing, even if we don't always understand.
