2 Chronicles 6:18 (New International Version)

18 "But will God really dwell on earth with men? The heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain you. How much less this temple I have built!

This verse says that God cannot be contained, even in the Temple.

John 1:14 (New International Version)

14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only,[a] who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

This verse says the Word (God) became flesh in Christ -- God pitched a tent.

Colossians 2:9 (New International Version)

9For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form.

This verse says that in Christ ALL the fullness of Deity lives in bodily form.

Question: If the fullness of God cannot dwell in the Temple, how can that fullness possibly be contained in a human body (Christ) who is already 100% man?

Read the context.

Solomon is quoting his father david, who was asking a question. Will God dwell among us? The God who can't even be contained by the highest heavens. He is not saying God can't, but is amazed that such a thing could be. What happened when Solomon built and dedicated the temple. God dwelled in the temple.Read 2 Chronicles 7.
Also, was God the father restrained in the person of Jesus. Did God the Father cease to be, while Christ walked the earth?

I think the key lies in what Solomon said and what he meant by what he said.

I also think I need to know what the Jews think of God coming to and dwelling in the Temple. If all of the fullness of God was not in the Temple, then what of God was dwelling there if not His fullness?

I need to take a look at 2 Chronicles and I have a Jewish Study bible that might explain what Solomon meant.

Solomon is quoting David. The text is pretty clear. It is not saying that God can't do something.

God can be fully in the temple and fully anywhere else, at the same time. That is why he is God. God was not restrained when He was in the temple, nor was He restrained when He was In Jesus. The temple can contain the fullness of God, but the temple can not contain God in means of restraint. Think of the ocean. If I take a glass and dip it into the ocean, what does it contain? The ocean. It is FULL of the ocean. But have I 'contained' the ocean? No. The ocean can fill my glass, and still fill the oceans. God can fill the temple. God can fill the person of Jesus. But He is not diluted in doing so.
