The feminine side of God

I just found out something pretty interesting about one of God's name today. It's El Shaddai... Actually this name for God is more associated more with God's feminine side (fertility) or the nourishing side of God. Isn't that interesting?

"Harriet Lutzky has presented evidence that Shaddai was an attribute of a Semitic goddess, linking the epithet Shaddai with the Hebrew šad meaning "breast", giving the meaning "the one of the Breast", as Asherah at Ugarit is "the one of the Womb".[9] A similar theory proposed by Albright is that the name Shaddai is connected to shadayim, the Hebrew word for "breasts". It may thus be connected to the notion of God's gifts of fertility to human race. In several instances in the Torah the name is connected with fruitfulness: "May God Almighty [El Shaddai] bless you and make you fruitful and increase your numbers…" (Gen. 28:3). "I am God Almighty [El Shaddai]: be fruitful and increase in number" (Gen. 35:11). "By the Almighty [El Shaddai] who will bless you with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lies beneath, blessings of the breasts [shadayim] and of the womb [racham]" (Gen. 49:25)."

While God is more known in the masculine, we have to remember that God has BOTH male AND female attributes.. He made both male and female in his image Genesis 1:27. Therefore women are also very much the makeup of God. Also we have many other verses that can attest to the feminine side of God!!

Matthew 23:37
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

Yes, neat (thanks!). I think I had read in a Matthew Henry commentary that the Spirit hovering over the waters was referred to as feminine. I really thought that was awesome at the time, and I still like that. It is . . . so appropriate, it seems to me.

I don't have that book anymore, but it was part of one of those large sets that covers the whole bible. You know, a massive book covering one to three bible books, within a series. I read that a long time ago, and I don't recall if he gave the name at all; he may have just said that it was a feminine indication of God there.

Hey, awesome!!!

I once had a girl (unsaved) tell me that it was strange to worship Jesus, saying how I love him and how he is everything etc. From her view it was very much like the way men talk to women and she felt it was less than masculine to have such passion toward a male. In order to save some amount of my manhood in her eyes, I quickly said, God is a spirit and so he is neither man, woman or human but a God. Then she said, but Jesus is a MAN!

In response, I told her that I worship him as a God and the holy ghost is his gift to me, it is a spirit and how he shares his love and interacts with both male and female. That was enough to quiet her down for a second but then she said. Don't males have male spirits (doh!)? No…I replied, the spirit is neutral and the body determines which sex we find attractive. This brought up all kinds of crazy questions, even going into homosexual characteristics and contradictions of Gods word. The whole thing ended in a stalemate but I was satisfied that I left with my manhood intact as well as representing God to the best of my ability.

But your findings are much better and to the point, nothing like solid facts. And now I can prove that male affections towards God are natural because he embodies both male and female attributes.

Yeah! That's right girl! Take that! I'm all MAN baby (while flexing)! LOL!

Thanks Gman!
