Purpose of prayer

Christ's message is always one of love and not hate.
Sure go ahead. Although, really you do not have to pray to god for me...Just spare some time and think about what I have to say, Then maybe you can give me the truth that I want. Prayer is cool and all, but if you just say that you will pray for someone and take no action other than that? That is not so cool actually it is cold.

????

What makes you make statements like these??? What would prompt you to assert that we would simply pray and not do anything???

1) As per our beliefs, praying to our GOd must be a priority!
2) Prayer is very powerful, Our God is very powerful
3) GOd works through His servants and pray is simply one way to do so
4) We have been discussing with your and we have been more than willing to talk with you
5) We have been offering your the truth all along...

As far as I am concerned prayer should be unnecessary, it is just glorified thoughts. Wouldn't the creator of the universe be simply able to anticipate your thoughts? Wouldn't this God be able to see the position of all the elictrical activity in your brain? So why demand god to lead this person to him because of something god probably did anyway. Do not believe in god? Here's a illness! Sorry no more smallpox, humans destroyed that!

I do not see how this is any better than Cold, empathic thought. maybe I just misunderstand.

Geesh. Because God isn't cold, He is love. He wants a relationship with us, and He wants us to participate with him. You keep acting like God is a piece of rock or something. y:-/

What do you want us to do, all go visit him? I bet he'd like that!! You never know . . . maybe he would!

Yes He can anticipate your thoughts, and wants you to act on them to, through prayer. That is in the Word my friend. I pray that God can reach out to you and touch your life and draw you close to Him so you can understand better. I also pray that Hitchens is touched by God. There is a lot you have to learn Kristoffer, I just hope that through this learning you will come to have a personal relationship with God.

Yes, you do misunderstand and, it seems, very willfully!

In no way are we saying that God doesn't know.

Let me ask you this...suppose you know your girlfriend so well that you can anticipate her thoughts, her wishes, her worries....would this justify you saying "oh she shouldn't even talk to me anymore, I know her thoughts...after all her talking to me would simply e glorified thoughts" Wouldn't you want your girlfriend, or even your best friend, to still communicate? Still talk?

Prayer is part of a RELATIONSHIP.

Cracking post, Zoe!

Question: could we possibly move this diversion to another forum? As much as I dislike Hitchens' views, I feel this crass diversion might hinder those who would otherwise see the real sentiment behind the OP and like to pray for him.
