The Creation Museum in Kentucky, under the auspices of Ken Ham and Answers in Genesis are building a to size replica of the Ark at a cost of about $26 million saying that polls show it would increase attendance to their museum by 67%.

I believe in a literal ark, although I believe too that the flood was local.

What do you guys think? Worthwhile investment in promoting said museum?

ugh....I have a tremendous annoyance with that museum, so I would say no....but if it's their money, it's theirs to waste, I guess...

Are they going to show us now how they fit all the animals of the world into it too? Someone please break out the vasaline jelly.. :P

Also, I would like to see how the animals survived on salt water to drink.

Well, I guess we can mock or examine. I provided you with links about Ark capacity and the models in another thread.

If you believe the literal dimensions, then just why was it that large?

There is actually a guy who built an ark, not full size but built to the scale. (50%) Pretty impressive.

No mocking in my OP at all. I simply noted the news story, stated a few corallaries in terms of my positions which really have little to do with the point of the story.

I didn't post the story to open a discussion on the issues surrounding the flood, although you and others can discuss it more if you like.

I was more interested in the response to the cost and the purpose of it.

The ark itself is not really an issue in my mind to the OEC/YEC conversation. I'm OEC and I believe in a literal flood and actual physical ark. I'm biased because I don't really have a great deal of respect for Ken Ham's methods in promoting his beliefs. So I'll admit that up front, without apology. I don't really see the value long-term of doing this, but then again, I think the entire museum is pretty far-fetched. I wouldn't invest the time or money to visit it with or without a full-sized ark.

Apparently however, enough people are to where they can afford to do this. Just boggles my mind. I think money like that could be put to much better use.

Bart,
I apologize. My initial reply was not to your OP, but to Gman's comments.

Sorry that I Iumped in my question to you without distinquishing.

I've been to the museum, and it is quite interesting. Although I don't agree with everything at AIG, particularly whenever someone atributes YEC to orthodoxy, I do like much that they offer. Jason Lisle (phd in astrophysics) is a wonder at exposing loggical fallacies in evolutionary thinking.

If the ark is the dimensions listed in the bible, then it is most certainly a problem for OEC. Makes absolutely no sense. When you actually see the literal size of the ark, it might change your perspective.
Not only was the ark big enough to hold the different kinds of animals, but it was large enough to hold a LOT more people.

Either way I think it'd be kind of cool to have a life size replica. At least we can point it as proof to the detractors who think it can't be built or won't float.

Isn't Ken still in jail? When was he released?

No. That wasn't Ken Ham. You're thinking of another YEC leader probably, Kent Hovind.

Byblos, is there a chance that this YEC ark will create more detractors? Skeptics may see the replica ark and think "Wow!, maybe the bible was correct after all!" Just to hear AIG say that dinosaurs were on the ark, and 2 of every animal on the earth as well. I can see those skeptics being even more skeptical.

"Wow!, maybe the bible was correct after all!"
Heaven forbid people start thinking that.

We already believe that we have contemporaries of dinos alive and well today.

Why would you call it a YEC arc? It's an arc built on the exact biblical specifications so it's nether YEC nor OEC. And you know what Rick, skeptics will always find asinine reasons to doubt anything biblical but that should not stop us from from building it 'cause you know what happens when you build it ...

A literal ark is not the exclusive domain and belief of just those who take a YEC view.

I think it's a cool idea. Just sad its an investment for further YEC promotion rather than Christ.
