AIG related Article in New York Times

Post by Canuckster1127 »

This is a link to an article in the New York Times relating some information related to a controversy involving Answers in Genesis, a Young Earth Creationist site.

Before you read it, a few disclaimers. I want to disclose that AIG has in the past been an object of criticism from me personally. I don't agree with some of their positions with regard to creationism. I've found their treatment of the OEC position and OEC proponents to be patently unfair at times.

That said, it looks to me like they've been purposely "set-up" in this instance to generate a controversy by a blogger and alternate lifestyle journalist to create difficulties for them that may have a significant impact upon some funding that AIG was looking to receive from the State of Kentucky. Why AIG would be getting state money is a mystery to me. Maybe I'm confused on that.

This is not really related to the OEC/YEC debate and so I'd like to ask that in this thread those issues not be raised. It's fine to start another thread in the appropriate forum or chime in on the existing ones if anyone wants to do so.

Here's the link.

Bart, is there any way to view the article without signing up? My computer has a "progressive-liberal-drivel" block, that won't allow me to sign in to such sites. ;)

I read it without having to subscribe. Lower drivel screens and take a look if you're interested. ;)

Bart, just from the info in the article itself, I don't see any problem with what the people running the meeting did. Maybe they should have refunded the money, if they didn't make it clear that same-sex couples can't attend. The article mentions something about the museum getting a tax break. I don't have a problem with that necessarily. States IMO should give tax breaks to private companies, as an incentive for businesses to remain in the state. It does seem the people that were refused admittance, were trying to incite something. I'm not sure what the controversy is in this situation. I don't think I saw anything in the article about the museum getting money from the state.

It definitely looks to be activists purposely attempting to manufacture an issue. I agree, AIG has a right as a private religious organization to maintain their own standards in this regard.
