It's been a long time, but I read it.

If you know the history of Thomas Paine he was a declared atheist after he wote the pamphlet and he went on to become involved in the French revolution. He died a somewhat broken man and in particular, the violence and cruelty of many elements of the French Revolution are reported by some to have disillusioned him a little.

Common Sense however as a pamphlet was indisputably a primary force in terms of it's timing with pushing the US toward independence.

I'm in the process of reading what is available of "The Age of Reason" online.

He says some negative things about the NT as well as negative things about the Old Testament, much of it Christians could punch holes in. I've seem both Jews and Muslims use it to blast Christianity -- the Jews seemingly to forget what negative things he said about their Scriptures.

I have the book, "Common Sense" but haven't read it yet.
