Yesterday I and the family had Rosh Hashanah dinner with my closest friend and his family who are Jewish. It was so funny actually because I was a little late and as I walk in the restaurant, who is sitting at a table right next to us? A bunch of nuns (in habits and all). And I'm thinking to myself here I am a nice Catholic boy celebrating a Jewish holiday, great. It turns out they also were there with Jewish friends doing exactly the same thing. Ooh, dodged a bullet there
.

I just did it off the cliffs in California with my handy shofar I got in Jerusalem at 8:20 am.. SHALOM!
My timing was off however..
I got the date a day late since the new moon actually was on the 29th 6:20 pm Jerusalem time. I'll do better next year.
The trick here is this... You have to time the new year in accordance with the new moon in Jerusalem. When the first sliver of the moon is seen in Jerusalem, that marks the beginning of the new Year.
Leviticus 23:24 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath,
a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation.
Don't worry, I'll get it right next year.
