Offerings from Cain and Abel

Post by microburst »

Why did God reject Cain's offering, but accept Abel's offering?

Because Cain bought forth the least amount possible from his harvest as opposed to Abel who took the best he had and then offered it to the Lord. Genesis 4:2-5
Cain was not honoring God with his gift because of his deceitfulness and was also not trusting God to provide for him, Abel on the other hand put his whole trust in God.

***my NIV is a little different to the NASB it goes***
"Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil. In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the LORD. And Abel also brought an offering—fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The LORD looked with favor on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.
Then the LORD said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”

Dan
1Tim1:15-17
Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever.Amen.
