Who gave Moses the ten commandments - was it God the Father or God the Son ?

Two answers come to mind....Either it was both/neither, because they are one in the same, or I would have to say the father because Jesus Christ was a long way from being born yet.

Ivell Christ has always existed. It was God who game the 10 commandments, Jesus being part of the trinity that is God effectively gave it as well.

You really can't have one without the other.

lets set the stage and imagine the scenario - Jesus said "keep my commandments" and also "no other commandment give I unto you"[other than the ten I have already given you] - the scenario an old person with a big long[white]beard as the ancient of days climbing up Mt.Sinai in the heat and dust to rendezvou with Moses while His teenage son back home with His feet up watching the world on television - so then who do you think gave the ten commandments to Moses - was the I AM of the burning bush the I AM who was before Abraham - twinc

Twinc, if you're trying to make a point, it's probably best just to come out with it. There is only one "I AM". The eternal God of the bible, and creation. One God, in three persons.

You can't separate the Word of God ( Christ) from God.
"He who has me has the Father and who has the Father has me...."
The God of Moses was God and when God spoke to Moses, He spoke through His Word, His Son, Our Lord.

btaim - I have always found that most Christians think God the Father of the OT and not Jesus of the NT gave the commandments to Moses and I am sure the Jews and Muslims think this - twinc

I think maybe the confusion lies with the incarnation of Christ. Christ wasn't born of a virgin, when God gave Moses the 10 commandments. Some probably don't fully understand how the son is eternal, if He was born.

Yep, some don't understand that the incarnation of the WORD of God was not the BIRTH of the WORD.
Although the GOJ makes that really clear right from the very beginning.

Gospel of John 1:1-3 nasb
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2[a]He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.

Here is a good lesson regarding this...

Read the verse below and then ask, how could a being not yet born be speaking and saying what he said about himself in the text...

Isa 49:1 "Listen, O coastlands, to Me, And take heed, you peoples from afar! The LORD has called Me from the womb; From the matrix of My mother He has made mention of My name.
Isa 49:2 And He has made My mouth like a sharp sword; In the shadow of His hand He has hidden Me, And made Me a polished shaft; In His quiver He has hidden Me."
Isa 49:3 "And He said to me, 'You are My servant, O Israel, In whom I will be glorified.'
Isa 49:4 Then I said, 'I have labored in vain, I have spent my strength for nothing and in vain; Yet surely my just reward is with the LORD, And my work with my God.' "
Isa 49:5 "And now the LORD says, Who formed Me from the womb to be His Servant, To bring Jacob back to Him, So that Israel is gathered to Him (For I shall be glorious in the eyes of the LORD, And My God shall be My strength),
Isa 49:6 Indeed He says, 'It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant To raise up the tribes of Jacob, And to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also give You as a light to the Gentiles, That You should be My salvation to the ends of the earth.' "
Isa 49:7 Thus says the LORD, The Redeemer of Israel, their Holy One, To Him whom man despises, To Him whom the nation abhors, To the Servant of rulers: "Kings shall see and arise, Princes also shall worship, Because of the LORD who is faithful, The Holy One of Israel; And He has chosen You." NKJV

Then note Chapter 48 identifies the speaker who continues to speak in chapter 49:

Isa 48:17 Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: I am the LORD thy God... JPS

Why use of first person speech? Then in Verse 49:3-7 note changes in use of He and Him instead of I? Think about it…
