I was just shown this link http://www.sacred-texts.com/wmn/wb/wb15.htm. Were really only 2 daughters among 70 souls? The text also says: "We find at many points that the Bible Does not reckon women as souls." is that true?

two words....pure rubbish.

btw, may be there were only two daughters and the rest were not mentioned by name or simply it was irrelevant for them to be mentioned as they were not part of the story being told, it could be lots of reasons.

People will see what they want to see when it comes to text and it's interpretation.
What we have to ask, when we 'reach" a conclusion, is WHY and HOW we got there.

My atheist friend says that God breathed into Adam the breath of life and woman created from his bone. Therefore man has soul whereas woman not. Thoughts?

Hana, does your atheist friend really believe in a literal Adam, and a literal Eve?

No.
What I mean, is that if your atheist friend doesn't believe in God, how does he make an argument, using Adam and Eve.
I'm not saying that Adam and Eve aren't literal people. Because I believe they were literal people. I'm just wondering why your friend believes they were literal people, when he doesn't even believe God literally exists. Understand?

Take it this way:
If he believed in God and Bible, he would believe Genesis 2 and had problems with saying that woman do not have soul.

You should ask him why on earth he thinks that being made from Adam's rib would mean she didn't have a soul. That's one heck of a leap. There are also philosophical reasons for thinking that a human without a soul is a self-contradiction, but you don't need to get into positive arguments at this stage.

Hana, of course women have souls. It's just silly to think otherwise. If women didnt have souls, how would they know how to cook, clean, and bring man a beer? :pound:

He says that God did not breathed 'the breath of life' into her.

So, let me get this straight. Your friend believes Eve existed as a literal person, but doesn't believe God exists? What other random parts of the bible does he believe are true?

Does it say that God made her with legs and arms? Nope.
Does that means she didn't have any?

God made MAN ( humans) in His image.
Every living creature has a soul since, in hebrew" the term for soul is used interchangeably with "life" or "living being/creature".
The term soul tends to refer to a living creature.

Hana, let me ask you this. From where do your thoughts originate? From your mind, or your brain? What is your mind, if not part of your soul, or your very self?

Thanks PaulS.

Rick, he does not believe in God and does not know which Bible parts are true. He just tries to point to inconsistencies. Take it that he says: "If Bible was true then ..."
