So this is Christmas...and what have you done?


Ok, so we are getting into the Christmans season again and, as someone with JW's in their family (Mother, Father and older sister and BIL), you can imagine the fun !
LOL!
For those that don't know, while JW's used to celebrate Christmas up to 1938, it became a "pagan holiday" sometime after that.
Christmas is strictly taboo for a JW.
Issues they have:
Christ was not born on Dec 25
The apostate Christians (catholics and orthodox) took pagan celebrations ( saturnalia, Mithra, sol ivictus, take your pick the Jw's certainly do) and made them Christian.
The apostles never celebrated Christ's birth.
Christmas trees are pagan
Santa Clause is worshiped and is pagan.
etc, etc, etc.

Fun eh?

I would think the only reason to look forward to winter in Canada, is for Christmas. In Canada, Christmas Day is kinda like a yearly milestone. Once Christmas comes in Canada, that means only 9 more months of winter left.
What holidays does your family celebrate?

MY family ( My wife and kids) celebrate all of them.
My parents and sister ( and her family) celebrate The Lord's Supper only.

Jehovahs Witness: I don't celebrate Christmas.

Christian: But there are many benefits to celebrating Christmas!

Christian:Well, it keeps one from being a Jehovah's Witness.

Spend the morning destroying their JW faith, then celebrate Christmas once they actually become Christians. Simple.

Every year I have to defend my observance of Christmas, its traditions, the whole notion of celebrating the birth of Our Saviour.
Regardless of how much evidence I show, they dismiss it because the evidence is not "approved by the Watchtower bible and track society".
It can get a bit frustration to say the least.
Although it gives me a break from having to defend the Trinity, infant baptism, that all believers are anointed, that all should partake of the body of Christ, etc.

Please now can we really claim that what the world does with Christmas is even Christian???

All the holidays it seems to me these days are about the new 'religion' of our modern times that is about going to the 'temple/mall/store' and worshipping/spending money.

Point out please one that is not for 'sale' any more.

Consumerism is the biggest false religion ever...

I really don't focus on what Christmas means or has become to OTHER people.
I do NOT make Christmas commercial or view it as anything other than the day we celebrate the Birth of Our Saviour ( not the DAY his was Born).
We don't know for sure when He was born, but to me taking a day and celebrating that He WAS born and all that goes with, is something special.
My fondness of Christmas has to do with:
9 And (F)an angel of the Lord suddenly (G)stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened. 10 But the angel said to them, “(H)Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; 11 for today in the city of David there has been born for you a (I)Savior, who is (J)Christ (K)the Lord. 12 (L)This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,

And on earth peace among men (N)with whom He is pleased.”

I understand but I am also very disappointed with the actions of our so called christians society and what is done and mixed in with Christmas. I have often wondered if every christian was to just not buy wrapping paper how much money would that add up too? How about all the plastic junk that breaks and is thrown away? How many poor people could it really help? It's rather immoral when you think about all that waste.

Also if you 'exchange gift' I don't view that as a true 'giving'. So very, very much of what is done with Christmas is not at all based on Christs teachings of moderation, simplisity and compassion.

Jesus wasn't born on December 25th.

And, no, I don't believe that there is a true example of a "savior figure" born from a virgin prior to Jesus. Lists like the one you've provided have been thoroughly debunked in the past. Pagan copycat lists are, almost without exception, produced by non-scholars whose primary sources are fellow non-scholars or heavily outdated "freethinking" scholars from the nineteenth century that have been refuted by more recent scholarship.
