New Forums Platform - not happening

phpBB3 (the platform these forums run on) is a great and freely available software.
But, I'm thinking that maybe this community would benefit from a new platform such as
vBulletin. Version 5 looks like it'll be fully stable soon and looks a treat.
It comes with a lot of features that would be great to have, which phpBB just doesn't have natively. And it seems to be phpBB version 4 will be a long way off so...
Not making any promises. Just scoping right now. What do the rest of you think? Do you like the vBulletin style at forums you've posted at? Unsure? Not fussed?

Good grief! I'm too old for change.

Maybe that just means the board needs a new generation of mods?

Is the history convertible?

Perhaps you're correct. This current team of mods is just like the Republican party in the US. A bunch of crotchety old white guys.

That is also my question what will be with all the posts?
New mods?

All the posts would be ported over along with all forum areas, users, etc.
Some small things might break, like some smileys may appear as text... but the larger stuff would be fine as they provide ability to port phpbb3 in.
I saw the thread recent about posts being lost... I believe vBulletin saves on the fly (don't take my work for it tho). But this would mean no more loosing your post.
Also, vB5 looks to support blogs amongst other things. Which I expect could potentially be opened up to users of a certain "level".
It is a commercial product, so I'm basically figuring out whether it would be worth me buying and setting up here.

Mods, you can remove this as an announcement since it is no longer relevant.

I am against removing. I have special heartful relationship to this thread. I changed the name of the topic and also change the status from sticky to normal. In this thread I raised my hand to be a mod

Hehe... yeah, not remove. But I think I made it a sticky, or announcements which means it stays at the top of the thread.
Someone stripped me of my powers so I can't change this now.

Are you playing the same "mod games" with me that I use to do to others?
Maybe I was just tired.
I"m tired a lot lately. I fully missing you saying that you also updated the status.
PS. I really didn't go playing games with other posters when I was a mod... honest!
