"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands." (Psalm 19:1)

Am I the only one who read this and thought, "Richard Dawkins has never heard of choir boys?"Amid all the warm words expressed by public figures after Pope Benedict announced his retirement one comment rather stood out. “I feel sorry for the Pope and all old Catholic priests. Imagine having a wasted life to look back on and no sex,” wrote Richard Dawkins on Twitter.
All I thought about was the recent gay prostitute thing among the cardinals...Bad, I know, but still funny in retrospect :pAm I the only one who read this and thought, "Richard Dawkins has never heard of choir boys?"
Wow! I hadn't even heard of that one!Ivellious wrote:All I thought about was the recent gay prostitute thing among the cardinals...Bad, I know, but still funny in retrospect :pAm I the only one who read this and thought, "Richard Dawkins has never heard of choir boys?"
There is such a thing as going too far Rick. This would be one of them.RickD wrote:From the article:Am I the only one who read this and thought, "Richard Dawkins has never heard of choir boys?"Amid all the warm words expressed by public figures after Pope Benedict announced his retirement one comment rather stood out. “I feel sorry for the Pope and all old Catholic priests. What's going too far? My comment, or what the priests did with the children?Byblos wrote:There is such a thing as going too far Rick. Yet another low blow. You really think I'm referring to the actions of the few in an attempt to excuse them?RickD wrote:What's going too far? It really wasn't meant to imply "all" priests. Sometimes there's more to a joke than just trying to be funny. My joke wasn't meant to make light of the pain that the thousands of trusting children go through. It was meant more as a dig at the offending priests, and those higher up that are complicit in the cover ups of the atrocities.Byblos wrote:Yet another low blow. No, going too far is in the implication that the pope and all priests do that. You are condemning the many for the actions of the few. Worse yet, you mask it as a joke.
Really Rick? That's what you took from what I said? That I was defending those who committed the atrocities? Nothing could further from the truth and you know it. My comment was very specific that your joke made a sweeping generalization. Please reread the quote on which your 'joke' was based. Here it is again:RickD wrote:It really wasn't meant to imply "all" priests. Sometimes there's more to a joke than just trying to be funny. So, instead of coming to the defense of those who committed the atrocities, and the organization that covered up the crimes, you could have just ignored my post.
And before you say you weren't defending them, reread your post. It was defensive.
Do you see the underlined? It was the subject of Dawkins' comments and it was the subject of your joke. That you don't see that tells me you don't want to.Amid all the warm words expressed by public figures after Pope Benedict announced his retirement one comment rather stood out. “I feel sorry for the Pope and all old Catholic priests. Why should Dawkins feel sorry for the pope and ALL of the old Catholic priests? Some of them have sex with nuns and male prostitutes.Amid all the warm words expressed by public figures after Pope Benedict announced his retirement one comment rather stood out. “I feel sorry for the Pope and all old Catholic priests. You forgot choir boys.RickD wrote:On further thought, I think I could've worded my comment/joke better. I'll try again.
