The bible says that God tests no one.
Of course that doesn't mean that God NEVER tests Us when He knows we NEED it ( and since God knows the outcome, is it really a test? certainly not for Him, maybe for us?).
The whole Job story is a lesson, but a lesson that works on multiple levels ( like many bible stories do).
Satan ( the adversary) is shown to be OUR adversary and not God's ( this is important).
We are shown that bad things happen to good people and that we should not judge others because bad things happen to them.
Remember that this story was written for THAT generation of people and not to us and our culture directly.
A key element is how Job's friends interpret what is happening to them.
This may be as much as story about them and Us ( those reading) then it is about Job.
