Are Christians in America being persecuted?

The idea that Americans Christians are being persecuted comes up fairly frequently on conservative news outlets like Fox News. I've never taken Fox News seriously so I didn't give it much thought, but then I heard the same idea from several different people at a Christian charity where I volunteer. That got me wondering just how much traction the idea had among Christians. So I'm asking.

Do you (by which I mean any individual who chooses to comment) feel that American Christians are being persecuted? If so, how, why, and by whom? Do you have any specific examples where you personally felt that you were persecuted?

Well Gman, that is persecution and how it develops...Values insulted, told to take Nativity scenes away, not to mention Jesus or say Merry Christmas as you may be attacked... Marginalized in the media as well as portrayed in the movies as fruitcakes... Yes it is how it starts...

AS for me, yes, been persecuted...

My life threaten, Medicine men tossing a dead puppy, insults, etc and etc - depends where you go and what ministry you do to help people improve their lives and how much hate you come across in certain areas of the country. Right now, persecutions comes mostly from the media and left leaning folks portrayal of Christians and attempts to make them look like fools (Duck Dynasty is one recent example). It does not matter. God is the final judge on matters of eternity, not us.

Again, skeptic you need to define what you mean by persecution. People think of beatings and torture on this subject. When you don't define the terms - people will miss what is being said. There is all different types of persecution - family shunning you to indirect and direct attacks.

So what type of persecution are you referring too?

Unfortunately it's going to get much worse.. It is interesting how the Bible predicts it's own future at least.. I'm glad to be called a Bible geek freak at least in all this mess.. The few, the proud, the Bible dudes.. y[-(

It's not my claim, and I don't really know what Fox News means when they say that Christians are persecuted in America. That's why I'm here soliciting opinions and why I asked "how, why, and by whom?"

Okay then, how did they define persecution and what did they say? Can you provide a news clip or transcript?

It puzzles me that you'd answer my question in the affirmative, then give supporting examples of things that you regard as persecution, and then conclude by asking me what I meant by the question. It's odd. Anyway, I've never heard an actual definition on Fox, but here's what Merriam-Webster has to say on the matter:
Merriam-Webster wrote:persecute

1: to harass or punish in a manner designed to injure, grieve, or afflict; specifically : to cause to suffer because of belief
As far as examples, they generally seem to involve Christian symbols being removed from public places, Christian language being removed/omitted/forgotten in speeches by public officials or in the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools, the media reporting negatively on Christians/Christian issues, businesses opting to replace "Merry Christmas" with "Happy Holidays," and, of course, the annual "War on Christmas." That's not an exhaustive list, but it's my general recollection of their examples.

EDIT: Here's a website that makes the argument.

Yeah, I read what you wrote, and then I gave you a definition of "persecution" because you asked me for one. Twice, in fact. Now you're angry because...?

Regarding the event with the puppy, can I get some context? Where did you come across medicine men and why were they so angry? Who insulted you and threatened your life? Where and why did it happen? Where have you been going and what ministry have you been doing there?

Also, what's that about Duck Dynasty? I don't watch the show (or reality television in general) so I'm not getting the reference.

Of course you will not agree with news episodes mentioned in the video... of persecution going on here in American against Christians but nothing will convince you anyways... even if does line up with the dictionary definition you provided.

You are not here to seek or discuss, it appears you mind is made up to implant as much disinformation as much as possible.

What really brought you here to this website?

You are correct that I'm not here to seek. I think I've been pretty clear about that from the start. I am here to discuss, and I've actually had some discussions - just not with you. Personally, I don't think that the communication problem is on my end.

You said that you were persecuted because you were a Christian, and I asked you for some details. Are you going to explain what happened?

Persecution of Christians is on its way to the USA; all the incipient markers are there. Only a fool would deny that. For now, though, persecution of Christians is in its infancy in America.

To see where you are going, visit:

www.persecution.com

...and click on Restricted Nations. Then click on Belarus and Cuba to get a sense of where the USA is headed in terms of social acceptance of Christian persecution.

Yep that is true FL, try helping the poor and needy as a Christian and see what comes your way in the States. Some folks, want proof that persecution actually happens but even with the proof presented they refuse to accept what is heard and seen as truth all due to some ego notion driven agenda to discredit at all cost.

Hmmm, persecution is real... in the the USA.

On CNN today Jan/2/2014 around 1030ish there was a report on liberal come back resurgence because those younger liberals are more leftist and want more confrontation. So the Dem party, according to the report is switching away from the Clinton old school progressivism into a more militant branch. The Dem Party is seeking to capitalize on this new base and feed into it. So, yes, persecution may get worse if that route is followed, then it will be sooner rather than later. I tried to find the full video of this report but only about a minute of it airs in their files. The rest is cut off. It concerned Clinton and the NY Mayor sworn in today.
