Hyper Holiness

There are several new waves of teaching within the body of Christ that are subverting sound Christian Doctrine and replacing Christian Theology with peculiar modes of thinking. I will address a few of these in the Theology Thread here on this Forum for discussion and comment.
Hyper (human) Holiness
Hyper Holiness is from my own observance and study of history. It involves a extreme stodginess and dependence upon ones' own efforts to be holy before God. It lead to the errors of Christian Perfectionism, of the 18'th, 19'th, and 20'th centuries as well as helped begin the youth revolt of the 1960's in America, and the Hyper Grace revolt. It involved fire and brimstone preaching concerning women going to the dance halls, cussing, evil of Rock in Roll, chewing or smoking tobacco, evil of going to the movies, KJV onlyism, and a host of things that made people flinch with guilt and shame and hide sins instead of be cleansed from them. It produced more hypocrites in the church because no one could live according to the legalism it produced. It also lead to the works based salvation model still popular today. It main fault is that it did not rely of the Holy Spirit for sanctification but rather what one did to clean up their act or ELSE! It preached against SIN to an extreme at the exclusion of God's Grace teaching us to deny - say no to sin - ungodliness... by the 1 John 1:9 way. There are many forms of this legalistic model and is the favorite Hyper Grace folks use to cement the errors of Hyper Grace-ism into people.
Have you experienced this hyper extremist (human) holiness?
If so how and what did it do in your life?
