Giving YOUR Money!

Both the World Giving Index and the Charities Aid Foundation place the USA as the most charitable country on the planet: both the USA's people and the American government are generous. I have no doubt that America's Christian heritage has a lot to do with her generosity.

Still, this commercial from Thailand promotes the God-given gift of generosity and grace:

Fwiw,

The video said the guy wouldn't be on tv, or famous. He's on YouTube, for the entire world to see!

Joking aside, that was one of the better commercials I've seen.

A friend sent it to me.

Keep in mind that it is only a commercial, a fairy tale. In all probability, the poor woman and her daughter would never collect enough money for the girl's education. And, some scum human traficker would take the girl and hire her out to tourists in Thailand. And, I've been to poor countries where feral dogs beg in the streets. Those doggies want nothing to do with humans except for the greasy chicken we offer.

Do you want me to continue or would you rather live the fairy tale?

I don't look at it as a fairy tale, honestly. The poor woman and the daughter are unlikely, but still possible. The improbability is why its heartwarming. As far the dog, I didn't think it was feral. Looked too healthy to be feral. My guess is abandoned or lost. Of course I have no idea if that is common in Thailand, I've meet Thai people but never been out of the country.

I'm also rationalizing so I don't feel bad, now. You just have to ruin everything, don't you?

I guess the improbable possibility can be heartwarming. Seeing that I don't play the lottery or go to casinos, I don't dream of what things might be like if I won a big jackpot.

You are right. The dog was also not wary enough around the man to be feral. Feral dogs in cities (Havana, for example) don't get close enough to you to be touched, although they do stand around and stare while you are eating something...just like your dog at home. (Also, feral dogs don't look ''happy'' like the dog in the ad.)

I wasn't ruining ''everything''! what an exaggeration! I was being a touch sarcastic and even signed my post with this happy face: :D

In any event, the point of my original post was to congratulate Americans on being the most generous people on the planet, and to say that generosity is a God-given trait which even heathen nations have.

See? See?! Now you're even ruining my accusations! :x

Joking aside, have you ever been to Thailand? You mentioned you've been to poorer countries I was wonder if Thailand was one of the places you've been.

Nope. My son visited Thailand and Laos last year. An acquaintance has been to India & Nepal several times. Based on the descriptions these people gave me, Asia is not a place I want to visit. (Heck, I don't even like Chinese food...)

Thailand was our first stop. Went to Bali, Singapore, Perhensian Islands, Australia, Fiji and New Zealand. Back in 2002.
I loved Thailand. The food, weather and people.

Here's a weird thing. When we were in Bali, we frequented the nightclub that got bombed. We should have actually been there when it happened but we wanted to get to the Perhensian Islands to learn to scuba dive so left earlier than planned.
