Basic Theology: Jesus is God

Post by B. W. »

Greetings,

After being here for all the years that I have been Moderator on this Forum, I have noticed that many well meaning Christians do not have the grasp of the simple basic 101's of Christian doctrines such as, Jesus being God, the Holy Spirit, the roles of the Holy Spirit in the local assembly, the deep meaning of the Cross and Resurrection, etc. So I decided to begin thread lines to discuss these with seekers and readers in an topical manner. The first being who is Jesus? Is he God?

Who is Jesus? Is He God?

I find it surprising that many Christians do not think Jesus is God despite the bible clearing declaring him so...

Titus 2:13. "...looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ..." NASB

Other people, have trouble with this so and confuse Jesus with being an anointed man exalted to god class, an angelic being, or a prophet and thus bring confusing into the church and promote this confusion of wrong ideas amongst actual Christian believers so that doubt creeps in weakening personal life altering faith.

As Titus 2:13 states clearly and the Apostles all taught - Jesus is God manifest in the flesh as well as man. In other words, the apostles letters and gospel accounts show that Jesus was 100 percent God and 100 percent man - God reconciling man through (a form of) unity (John 17:1-26) to be discussed later. But for now, we will look at how Jesus is truly God manifested in the flesh.

How can this be so when in the 10 Commandants God says:

Exo 20:3,"You shall have no other gods before Me"

and...

Isa 44:6, "Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts: 'I am the first and I am the last, And there is no God besides Me."

Then...

Isa 43:11, ", even I, am the LORD, And there is no savior besides Me.

Hosea 13:4 "Yet I have been the LORD your God Since the land of Egypt; And you were not to know any god except Me, For there is no savior besides Me."

Isa 45:21 "Declare and set forth your case; Indeed, let them consult together. Who has announced this from of old? Who has long since declared it? Is it not I, the LORD? And there is no other God besides Me, A righteous God and a Savior; There is none except Me. 22 "Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth; For I am God, and there is no other."

Isa 44:8 'Do not tremble and do not be afraid; Have I not long since announced it to you and declared it? And you are My witnesses. Is there any God besides Me, Or is there any other Rock? I know of none
.'"

The only way for Jesus to be savior is that he is God as it is written. Why, God will not make another God nor give this glory to another being as it is only he who saves to the uttermost...

Titus 2:13. "...looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ"

Act 4:10-12, "...let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead--by this name this man stands here before you in good health. 11 "He is the STONE WHICH WAS REJECTED by you, THE BUILDERS, but WHICH BECAME THE CHIEF CORNER stone. 12 "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved."

Conclusion:

The bible clearly points out that Jesus is God. It is people who cannot accept this and bring in some outstanding error concerning this matter.

I suggest that folks also look over my post The OT Concept of God as it brings out how Trinitarian the Old Testament (OT) is for further insights.

Your welcome!

The other part of the mystery is that Jesus was a 100 percent God and 100 percent man and if one see's the symbolism in this it is simple: God and man reconciled.

...and of this - it is written:

Rom 5:10, 2 Co 5:18, 19, 20, 21 Col 1:20, 21, 22

You could say that God joined himself with humanity, not because we are so great or nice or good, but just to save us from ourselves and be restored back to what God had originally in mind for humanity. However, not all will rejoin themselves to God through Jesus Christ, and those that will not and refuse, well, will suffer their own fate banished away from God's goodness forever separated from Him.

Those that return to him by Trusting in the grace he shown by Jesus Christ are reconciled and sealed as forever his. Trust is the beginning of love. Without that trust, there can be no love. Faith works by love and we learn to love God because he first loved us. Dying in our place, removing our sin from us, sealing us as his own special people who (we are) in this life learn to Trust Him more and more each day.

The more I learn of Him, the more the world's allure fades from my heart. Through mortal life's travail, sickness, pain, though good times and mountain top experiences I find the Lord's goodness leading me home, enduring the bad times and and enjoying the many good times, in that, he bids me to - Trust Him.

I may not know all the reasons why bad and terrible times comes, or persecution, delays, but with him, I could not endure any of it and nor could I ever learn to - Trust Him.

God Bless!
