During the World War I on the Christmas day, soldiers played fotball with their enemies, sang songs, exchanged gifts...
This Christmas will be 100 anniversary.

At the first light of dawn on Christmas Day, some German soldiers emerged from their trenches and approached the Allied lines across no-man's-land, calling out "Merry Christmas" in their enemies' native tongues. At first, the Allied soldiers feared it was a trick, but seeing the Germans unarmed they climbed out of their trenches and shook hands with the enemy soldiers. The men exchanged presents of cigarettes and plum puddings and sang carols and songs. There was even a documented case of soldiers from opposing sides playing a good-natured game of soccer. - See more at:

That's amazing! I can't help but think there's no way that could happen today. Could you imagine members of ISIS wishing allied forces a Merry Christmas?
I guess it helped that both sides celebrated Christmas.
Even if our enemy wished us a Merry Christmas now, we'd probably be too politically correct, and have to respond with a "Happy Holidays".

Or Ukraine. People are starving there. Families cut from their money, hiding in underground places, starving, dying.

It did happen. Between the British and the Germans.
This captures it well - although it is an advert by Sainsbury's mind.
