Cancer and alkaline water - just a market?

Ok guys,

There are companies profiting from selling alkaline water (higher pH). They claim it is profitable to cancer patients. (Google all their claims if interested.)
I am now researching this topic and am coming to my conclusions which I will not uncover now.

So, is it just a marketing lie or is it based on science knowledge?
Will you do yourself harm drinking it or improve your health?

Blessings,
Hana

Hana,

I've owned an alkaline water machine for the last 6 years. I did A LOT of research regarding alkaline ionized water, beginning when we found out my dad had cancer.

I believe alkaline ionized water has many health benefits. While I believe it may help prevent, or even fight cancer, I know of no scientific data from studies, that backs that up.

Alkaline water and foods, are simply healthy for us.

Any questions, you can ask me here, or pm me. If you have links you read, I've probably read them all too. Maybe I can help you understand them, and separate the truth from some of the unwarranted claims.

It's basically just marketing. Chronically introducing alkaline substances to your body (doesn't matter from what, water of food) will mess with the PH balance in your system. Your body will either compensate for it (making it work harder to do so, or not much at all depending on various factors and the amount).
So the real question is, is it a cancer that could benefit from living in more an alkaline state? And is enough even being introduced to make any difference? (and could your body even handle living in the state that might be beneficial for cancer cells?) Most times, the body compensates to achieve homeostasis no matter what you introduce. And if it is a good thing, there would be much more effective methods of reducing the bodies PH; but I couldn't see that being a goal for almost anything (unless there was a kidney disorder)...

Mallz,

thank you. I know you are a doctor (right?)
I myself have not found scientific back up for that. Except that it is good for reflux.
Am attaching two links which I still need to go through more thoroughly.

I cannot imagine your stomach would not achieve to compansate the pH. Even harder to imagine it would reach brain tumor.

Hana,

The key is to drink alkaline ionized water. Alkaline water alone, without ionization, is not the same.

Good article explaining why alkaline ionized water benefits us:

funny you say that, ill use carbonated water for my reflux :D

Kidneys (lungs are involved too), and they do. It's really only in renal disorders it doesn't happen.

Hana,

While alkalinity is certainly important, when reading about alkaline ionized water, you need to understand orp. That's the real key to why the water is healthy.

Here's some basics:

Hana,

I've been drinking alkaline ionized water for 6 years. I could tell you how it has made me feel better.

But in the end, I wouldn't tell you that drinking it will cure your husband's cancer. So really, there's no point in me refuting the mistakes and inaccuracies in that article.

If I had cancer, I would make the water part of my every day regimen. It can help your husband, or anyone be healthier.

But like I said, I'm not going to claim it will cure his cancer.

If you haven't already, I would focus on [deleted by hana] survivors. Focus on what they did to survive. Why have they survived, 5, 10, 20, or 40 years, when others have not. Why have they or doctors done differently in their cases.
