or at least it is in some countries including New Zealand.

Do you consider it an appropriate form of punishment and do/did you use it on your own kids?

Hands are for hugging, and healing. Not for hitting.

:twodancing:

If you're going to hit your child, or your wife, use a belt, paddle, bat, wooden plank, metal rod, or tire iron. Never use your hands.

And, if a man invades his wife's territory(the kitchen) she is free to hit him with a pan. :fryingpan:

Seriously, spanking a child is illegal in New Zealand?

But can you smack a prostitute? y:-?

Sounds like a very "progressive" country you live in.

Can't discipline your child, but prostitution is ok. y:O2

I have never, and will never, hit my daughter. It's totally wrong in my opinion.
It sends out the wrong message, I'm bigger than you, violence is the only way I can deal with this.
Smacking is physical abuse.

How could you teach your child violence is wrong when you display it yourself?

(Rick? Do you really think smacking is "discipline"?)

Oh and same-sex marriage is legal too.
That became legal in 2013.

You guys are so behind the times! :P

Context is the important thing to look at.

I don't think it's wise or appropriate if a parent who has anger issues smacks their kids if they can't control themselves. But I see nothing wrong at all in other parents using smacking (appropriatly) as a discipline tool. One of many tools. Any discipline can be misused. E.G time out in their room is fine but to lock them in there for two days? Maybe not ;)

What do you mean by "smacking". I think smacking is like a slap across the face. I don't think that's good discipline.

And Im talking about smacking on the behind or hand etc
To me smacking a kid on the face is not appropriate.

Rick, not sure about slapping a prostitute - never had to worry about that one

Sorry Nessa. The post was highly inappropriate not politically correct. Don't worry, I disciplined myself. ;)

I just think there are other, better ways of discipling.
To me, even a smack on the behind or hand seems just, I dunno, bullying. And kinda brute force.

Sure. But sometimes you gotta just put 'em in there place, right?

On an off topic note, I just left my local supermarket, where the Salvation Army guy outside the store was singing, "I'm just a gigolo".

Nothing like gigolos to get us in the holiday spirit!

There's nothing better than a woman who knows her place.

There'd be a lot less smacking going on, if more women made sammiches! y:D
