What is Christianity?
"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands." (Psalm 19:1)

Already done. Hahaha!Nessa wrote:Maybe we should be asking a five year old to explain it to us
You can't explain Christianity to a 5 year old. You need to wait until the kid is old enough to start asking the questions by itself. That would probably be around 12(actually depends a lot on the environment the kid is raised in).Halsoft wrote:What is Christianity?
It totally depends upon the individual child. Both of my boys understood enough and that their hearts and minds had truly embraced Jesus for me to have confidence they were ready for baptism around 8 or so. Yes, there is a LOT about Christianity, what Christ calls us to, that a child can't fully understand. But they CAN understand what Jesus and Scripture says is crucial that they know and embrace. The rest is a life-long learning curve - for everyone. You can't explain Christianity to a 5 year old. You need to wait until the kid is old enough to start asking the questions by itself. As I said, it heavily relies on the environment the kid is raised in. If s(he) was raised in atheist family, that day (for baptism) might never come.Philip wrote:It totally depends upon the individual child. Probably because Jesus' life reflects the perfectness of God the best.Halsoft wrote:Why do you feel that the only way to God is through Jesus?
Because this is what the New Testament redundantly teaches. If one believes what Jesus and His apostles redundantly taught - people, by the way, whom KNEW whether or not Jesus had overcome His death on the cross.Hal: Why do you feel that the only way to God is through Jesus?
Dont suppose these tribal people sat around discussing or understanding metaphysics, philosophy and religion much either.. You know, with being too busy running around trying to survive and having fun killing each other and all..IceMobster wrote:Already done. You can say how Jesus died for them, how they are able to repent from sin, what sin is,etc etc. but they would not understand. Being 5, only thing you have in mind is having fun and playing around, exploring the things around you and not discussing metaphysics, philosophy and religion, lol.
What does this have to do with anything? What is your point?Nessa wrote:Dont suppose these tribal people sat around discussing or understanding metaphysics, philosophy and religion much either.. The tribal peoples understanding was extremely limited yet they ended up understanding the basics similar to a five year old or childIceMobster wrote: What does this have to do with anything? What is your point?
I am pointing out that you can not explain a religion (in this case Christianity) to a 5 year old for him/her to fully understand it.
As I said in the post above, when you are 5, you don't give a damn about all of that (philosophy, metaphysics, religion). Only thing you care about is playing around and having fun.
I think kids understand it better than we think.IceMobster wrote:What does this have to do with anything?
