Movies that made you think

Are there any movies that have really impacted you? Made you think?

One for me would be 'Les Miserables'

Two scenes in particular...

1. Where jean valjean is caught stealing but the priest covers up for him, showing God's kindness. This is an act that stayed with jean valjean and really impacted him to show kindness to others.

2. When jean valjean helped the prostitute and shes laying dying on the bed. She is expecting that he will want to have sex with her (like other men) in exchange for all the kindness he has shown. She probably has never been shown this kind of love before. A love that gives without asking for anything in return. A sacrificial type of love.

To me the movie just has so many Christian themes to it:
Sacrificial love, grace, kindness, hope.

Some of the Christian movies -- can't think of the names Now. But they make a person stop and Think. A person might not agree with all of it -- but we have brains to think with. " God is Not Dead" has been one. The 'Left Behind Series' -- it makes a person stop and 'Think'. It's somewhat non-Biblical , though. It sounds like after the rapture takes place that people will realize something amazingly unbelievable has happened and they turn to Christ as a result. Scripture says that when people Are raptured up and out -- that those who have been 'left behind' Won't all of a sudden decide To believe. Things will get So bad that those who Do choose Christ --many will be paying with their lives. Life will be very hard for Everyone except those who try to stay alive while following Christ. And there Will be 144,000 Jews who will be 'safe' and their mission will be to evangelize the Jewish population and anyone else who Will believe. And multitude Will believe. Enough sermonizing y@};-

Nessa -- I've heard of the movie you've mentioned. Never seen it, though.

Although I normally think Russell Crowe is an incredible actor, he really helped to ruin the lastest version of this movie.

So if you ever watch it, please watch the urma thurman and liam neeson one. Its amazing :fyi:

No. In the movie's defense, they're National Geographic type boobies. Not porno boobies.

And another movie(series) that made me think, is the Star Wars series. "A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away..."

Does that mean multiverse?

Did God create this far away Galaxy, or did it come about by naturalism? Fascinating stuff!!!

Is that like the difference between porn and art? y:-?

I watched Bridesmaids the other night - it's a bit stupid but I liked the themes of friendship, love and competition. The parts where the main character feels she's lost all her friends and where she leaves her (former) best friend a message saying she needs to talk something out with her - that all made me think how I don't have friends like that :( Back in New Zealand years ago I felt I had a close friend (whom I met when I was about 20) and some other friends that I actually did things with; now I chat to people at church, but another mum I considered a good friend has left for another church and there's no one else that I can really talk to about a lot of things. Not problems necessarily, but just things I'd like to tell someone about. Normally, as I'm a pretty reserved and independent person, it doesn't bother me much but sometimes something makes me start feeling sorry for myself

Edit: the editing was a bit weird when I was typing this and trying to insert some words in; instead of the other words moving along they'd get 'eaten up' - replaced by the new ones. I did it by pressing enter and making the words to come after go down to the next line while I inserted some more, then backspacing it. There was one line still split up when I submitted the post so I came back to fix it and now it seems to be working properly...

Re: Friendship.. I feel for you Nicki and know what you mean.

I have a whopping two "real" life friends. Good friends are hard to find.

I was reminded today of another movie and it's actually to do with friendship between a guy and a dying girl. It's super funny and heart felt too.
(It may look a bit teenage-ish but it's really worth seeing)

If I was going to pick a Christian themed movie I would choose Jesus Christ Superstar, I watched it as a kid and it has always stuck with me for some reason, I think because it emphasises his human side which helped me understand that God lowered himself to our level.

If it was a mainstream movie I would choose The Life Of PI, deeply insightful movie and an interesting outsider perspective on the worlds religions.
