One of the Facebook posters pointed out this is 10 minutes away from San Bernadino.
What do you think B.W., should they shrug this off, cancel mass, or do something in between?
Also I can't find anywhere in the article how this threat is Christians' faults....it seems, at least for once, that being nice to Islamists wouldn't have helped.

You just love that straw man, don't you. I guess it's easier than thinking through a complex issue.Hortator wrote:Also I can't find anywhere in the article how this threat is Christians' faults....it seems, at least for once, that being nice to Islamists wouldn't have helped.
Anyway, this is a strange one. The incident, such as it was, actually happened back in April. For some reason was picked up by the FOX News outrage machine back on the 9th, and by the rest of the feeding frenzy caught up yesterday. There are two headlines attached to the story - one claiming that 3 guys in a car yelled through a bullhorn, and the other claiming that a bunch of guys stormed the church. The articles all say it was the former, so I guess the latter is the result of some blogger lying to generate more outrage and having his lies passed on by other liars. I've researched a lot of these articles, and so far that's all pretty typical.
Where it gets odd is that I can't find any mention of it anywhere other than the conservative outrage blogs. The Riverside PD Facebook page doesn't mention it, nor do the Riverside police logs, or any of their 3 newspapers (the Press-Enterprise, Highlander, and Metropolitan News). It's as if it wasn't a big deal or something.
So anyway, 4 months ago some guys in a car apparently yelled something that might (or might not) have been "Allahu Akbar," and now it's being widely reported (among a certain set) that "DEVOUT Muslims In California TERRORIZE Sunday Church Service Yelling “Allahu Akbar” During Worship."
The end is nigh upon us...

If it makes you waste your time by writing essays in reply, I'll gladly keep doing itedwardmurphy wrote:You just love that straw man, don't you. A 4 word or 5 word post and you give us half a book. And you keep falling for it every time.

I'm not falling for anything. My response to you was one dismissive sentence, and it got you to come right out and admit that you're a shallow child who's more interested in trolling me than in actually thinking about and discussing serious, complex issues. That's always been obvious, but I never thought you'd actually say it.
The rest was me sharing what I found about the article. I learn a lot by investigating and (almost always) debunking this stuff. It often takes me down paths I'd nave never have thought to follow. I don't care if you, or anybody else, reads it. I organize my thoughts by writing them down, and here's as good a spot as any.
I listened to a talk the pastor of that church gave. Interesting fella. He's against abortion and gay marriage, of course, but he also wants to roll back legalized contraception and criminalize sodomy and adultery. He also feels (or at least felt in 2014) that conservative Muslims would make great allies in that fight, since they share a lot of beliefs with conservative Christians. He figures that having an increasingly secular society is actually more dangerous than Sharia law.* He says that a lot of Muslim law is derived from Byzantine law, so traditional Christian and Muslim views actually mesh quite nicely. I disagree with most of what he had to say, but it's interesting listening an Eastern Orthodox perspective rather than the western Protestant perspective that's more commonly heard in the US.
So anyway, silly article, but it took me in an interesting direction and exposed me to a new perspective. Thanks.
* I'm imagining B.W. reading that paragraph, agreeing, agreeing, agreeing, and then being caught completely off guard by the Sharia part and spitting coffee on his computer.
