Ted says that he's voting for Trump because he prayed about it, and he searched his conscience. Ted said nothing about voting for Trump because his political career would essentially come to an end.
Prayer and conscience. I wonder if it's the same type of prayer that his father used, to convince God to tell him that Ted will be the next president. So, old Teddy decided to "keep his word" when he found out that his political career was in jeopardy conscience told him to, and He prayed about it.
