On a more serious note most of these meds are refashioned to be kept and classed as new drugs in order to charge high prices before they go generic. It is the industry that does not act honestly...

They want more folks on these to make money...

Market them on TV as the cure for all ills, and have folks just ask their doctor, so he will fill...

There are many snake oils, pharmaceuticals have money to fund studies that serve to "prove" theirs work, not to mention effective marketing.
