Gap Theory

Post by Gilligan »

I have read a couple possibilities as to when the earth was destroyed (Genesis 1:2) and recreated (starting with Genesis 1:3). One is the Lucifer's world was destroyed at the end of the Mesozoic Era, at the K-Pg Boundary, than recreated beginning in Genesis 1:3 about 6,000 years ago. The second possibility was at the end of the Pleistocene Epoch. Neither of these makes sense to me unless Creation Week began immediately after the extinction event. If the first is true, this would mean the Earth was without form and void for 65 million years, but science indicates there was life between the K-Pg event and 6,000 years ago. If the second is true, this would mean the Earth was without form and void for about 4,000 to 6,000 years, or from the End-Pleistocene event until Creation Week started. If Lucifer's world wasn't destroyed until 6,000 years ago than immediately recreated, why was there no record of a mass extinction event of that time? Yet another one was that Lucifer fell around the Cambrian Period, but the that would leave the Earth without form and void for more than 500 million years.

Can someone help me to make sense of it?

I agree, and records do go back farther than 6000 years. Even many YECs admit the earth is probably older. We have people groups whose stories reference the ice age, up in the Pacific Northwest and maybe others too. If the ice age was around 12000 years ago then it wouldn't make sense that the gap would've happened then. If we don't have a record of a mass extinction of Lucifer's world then it would make sense since it was too far back in time.

We can only go by evidence in the earth to determine when the former world perished, then there was a gap of time where all life was dead for a certian amount of time until God made this world we live in now. I don't think it is as hard to tell when the former world perished as some do because we can look at the life that was wiped out at the last ice age about 12,000 years ago and see that it is different kinds of life than the life we have in this world. The bible does not tell us when though, nor how long the gap was,so we can only go by evidence to determine these things. I hope this helps. The other creation interpretations have a team of scientists working to prove their interpretation true and correct, the Gap Theory does'nt so we have to do the research ourselves.

Could there have been multiple destructions/judgments of the Earth in the geological past since there were multiple mass extinction events, and that Genesis 1:2 is referencing only the most recent one? If this is true, how could Lucifer have sinned only 12,000 years ago?

What do u mean? Some lifeforms yeah but most were the same as they are now 12000 years ago. Even the human fossils from then are like us.

I think it was before since we have fully anatomical human fossils with genetic lineage pointing back to them from at least that far back.
He did sin in heaven and idk the time difference up there.

Yes but those extinction events have to do with the former world though and not this world before the gap.Who said Lucifer sinned 12,000 years ago at the time of the Gap? He sinned long before the gap or judgment was poured out,his sin ultimately led to the former world perishing.I tend to believe in the former world God tested angels and Lucifer and a third of the angels rebelled against God but in this world we live in now God is testing man.

Was Lucifer's sin what caused the earth to be without form and void, or was it long before? When would be the best to place Lucifer's sin? Also, would the extinction events of the Precambrian, Paleozoic, and Mesozoic have anything to do with his sin?

We are not saying that all life in the former world was different than the life in this world, this is why God both made and created life after its kind though. So some life was based on life that had already live/existed before and some life was new life that God had never created before.

No it was judgment God poured out because of Lucifer and the fallen angels sin that caused the earth to be without form and void where all life was dead.God flooded the earth and it was a much worse flood than Noah's flood was in this world because in Lucifer's flood both the heavens and earth was flooded where in Noah's flood only the earth was flooded, not the heavens too.Lucifer's flood was the reason why the earth became without form and void in Genesis 1:2.2nd Peter 3:5-6 "For this they willingly are ignorant of,that by the word of God the heavens were of old,and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:Whereby the world that then WAS,being overflowed with water perished."The earth is out of and in the water in Genesis 1:2.It wiped out all life this is why after Noah's flood God made a promise with Noah forever that he would never again destroy all flesh off the earth again in a flood,it is because of Lucifer's flood not Noah's flood that did not wipe out all life on earth.God spared this world from perishing in Noah's flood so that Jesus could eventually be born like God had said, but there was a flood that wiped out all life.

Based on the life that was wiped out at the last ice age wooly mammoths, mastadons, giant ground sloths, armadillos the size of Volkswagon, rats the size of dogs, wooly rhinos, and about 200 other known species.I think we can say at the last ice age.The earth is frozen in Genesis 1:2 also by the way because there is no light. Just like with all other interpretations when you're trying to see how it lines up with both science and God's word there are a few problems with trying to make the gap fit here, but they don't necessarily mean it is wrong.I think this is why some try to move the gap back further in time.

So the End-Pleistocene would fit better with Lucifer's sin than, say, the End-Permian or the End-Cretaceous ones? What cause these other events other than sin?

Well I think first when we get into the former world we need to first realize that God is eternal so it does not make much sense that God would just sit around for eternity until just about 6000 years ago. No,he's been busy but based on science there were atleast 7 extinction events we can see where it is like certian kinds of life are wiped out and then it is like new different kinds of life arrive on the scene,at different times and intervals when these extinction events happened.

So we can say over them billions of years God simply created new life after extinction at different times and be just as believable as evolutionists. You see they'll always claim life survived the extinction events so that life can evolve, but since they have no credible mechanism for how life evolves and so don't even know if life really evolves they are just blending evolution imagination into the evidence that is not there.

If we simply look at the evidence we just see extinction and new kinds of life coming on the scene after these extinction events. So that the Gap Theory can become more believable than the theory of evolution based on the same evidence.

Many don't know this but this was evidence for the Gap Theory before Charles Darwin came on the scene and found a way to make a convincing case about how to blend evolution into this evidence and every since then we have "A Lost World" that has been overlooked.

This is why Gap Creationism became so popular up until about the 1970's when young earth creation ministries started popping up.
