Does anyone know why the State of Delaware's age of consent for a girl is 7 years of age? How could a girl of 7 be ready for sex?

God does not tell us in the Bible what the age of consent should be. Why not?

Thanks.

As of 2007, per your link, Delaware's age of consent is NOT 7.

Look at 1880. I should have mentioned that.

Lemme guess...

Your great grandmother was 7 when he was born?

I spend a great deal of time discussing Islam and Christianity with Muslims.

The age of consent came up.

I came to G&S for some input because I usually get good responses.

The argument is that God did not specify the age of consent, and He didn't.

In my view, God left it up to the parents to decide when a girl is ready for marriage and sex.

The Muslim brought up the age of 7 in 1880 in the State of Delaware.

His argument is that we should stop complaining about Muhammad consummating his marriage to Ashia when she was 9 because Delaware in 1880 put the age of consent at the age of 7.

If that's all they have for an argument, then that's pretty pathetic.
Only a sick, twisted man wants to rape a 9 year old girl.

While it can be argued that the age of consent maybe puberty by Ezekiel 16, I think that is too vague.
It was obvious that when women were of age to have children ( menstrual cycle started) that they were of age for marriage and this is consistent across the times and cultures, up until the 20th century.

It doesn't really mean much that one place has a messed up law and that it somehow justifies another messed up law or act.

You would think that, if the only way to justify an act is to point out another bad act or a worse one, that people would realize that they don't have much to stand on.
Extreme excuses to justify extreme acts don't hold much water.

Interesting, as the age of consent, across cultures and times, has a lot to do with when a particular society considers a person to have become a man or woman. We have a very modern view, in which it's more like 18 or older. But kids in many cultures don't have the extended childhood (often encouraged) of today - in many agrarian societies, particularly ancient ones, "kids" began to receive adult responsibilities very early on. So by their mid-teens, many were married. Course, their life expectancy wasn't much past 45, if that. Heck, I was older than that when my second child was born. At 12, most boys in frontier America got their first gun, or were taught how to use and hunt with the family one. In the 19th century, unfortunately, many kids worked in factories - until laws changed that. But if there's one thing we could learn from the past, it's to mature your kids as early as possible. Concerns I have about kids getting married young today, is their immaturity, insufficient education level, and lacking a good job.

Then it shouldn't matter if a girl gets married at 9, because she should just need to know how to cook and clean, right?

Muslims also use junk like this:

Rebecca was 3 years old when Isaac married her.
