Hi everyone, as I'm sure you're all aware Hurricane Irma is about to make its way to the U.S. North Carolina isn't expected to get hit with the full force of the storm, but we are expected a lot of rain from it. Any prayers would be much appreciated.

This storm is an absolute monster, comparable to super-storm Sandy, if not worse, if it stays on its current projected course. Let us hope and pray it will change paths back into the Atlantic and spare us a direct hit. y[-o<

To Rick and all other members in Florida, please take good care of yourselves and keep us posted on the conditions where you're at. You are in our prayers.

Latest path, from both American and European models, has Irma going up the east coast of Florida. The further east, the better.

It's not only the coast - I've lived all my life 100 miles of so inland from Charleston, SC. When Hurricane Hugo staged a direct hit on Charleston, in '89, you wouldn't believe the damage, FAR inland, and not only in our area, but all the way to Charlotte. I took a trip to Charlotte right afterwards, and it had the kind of damage you'd expect to see from a coastal hit. Unreal!

Rick, what's your backup plan, if it turns toward you?

Wait it out at home. I can't see an evacuation happening inland, unless it stays a category 5. And the models have it weakening to a 3 by the time it gets to me.

Rick: And the models have it weakening to a 3 by the time it gets to me.
Which is nothing to sneeze at - that's still a powerful storm. How close are you to a major water source?

Maybe 30-35 miles, as the crow flies.

As long as you aren't downstream from a dam, or in a floodplain.

This is a fairly fast moving storm, too. Harvey moved about 2mph, and just sat above Houston and kept dumping water.

We'll find out more this weekend, which path irma will take.
