Is obsession always bad?

Not discussing anything in particular is obsession always bad? Can't obsession lead to something good happening that would otherwise be impossible? If someone accuses you of being being obsessed isn't it just a question of them disagreeing with you?

No, maybe, and it's possible. I guess the key is to be obsessed with something worthwhile.

I think it is, always. Spread your passions around like seasoning. If one area of your dish has all the seasoning, then you're going to make a bland dish that makes people sneeze.

I disagree.

That's like justifying unhealthy behaviour because it's a good cause.

Considering that obsessions are mental disorders, then yes, they're always bad.

And yes, in my "professional" opinion, if someone had a hypothetical obsession with Trump, to the point of continually starting threads about him, then that is unhealthy. And of course, I'm not talking specifically about anyone here.*

We have to find the Golden Mean, as Aristotle once said. Inside every "thing" in the universe, there is a balance that ought to be sought by man. Whether it's love for your wife for example, too much becomes clingy. Or love for your country can make you a radical nationalist. Or even too much love for your kids can make you a helicopter parent.

You should have a passionate appreciation for the life of others, for example. But can we go overboard with caring for our fellow man? Aristotle said we ought to discuss these things, to find that Golden Mean, together.

Now that I accessed your link, I see that I am not obsessed after all. However I do see clearly now that RickD is obsessed with being a jerk.

Isn't it rather suspicious if someone accuses you of being obsessed with a matter of partisan politics if the accuser had a different opinion?

I would challenge RIckD to show an example of anyone holding a political opinion he strongly agrees with that he thinks is obsessed about it.

I don't even accuse RickD of being obsessed with Pro-Trump, so he can't turn it around on me.

I'm accusing you of being obsessed with Trump because you are obsessed with Trump. Not because I agree or disagree with your beliefs about Trump or his policies. The obsessed mind gravitates toward the extreme side of whatever it is obsessed with. The mind that functions normally doesn't gravitate towards one extreme or the other.
I would challenge RIckD to show an example of anyone holding a political opinion he strongly agrees with that he thinks is obsessed about it.
As I said above, if someone is obsessed about a political view or politician, by the very nature of obsession, they are to one extreme or the other. I wouldn't strongly agree with anyone who is obsessed with something, no matter which extreme they were.

Anyone who wants to see for himself how obsessed you are with Trump, would only have to look at all the threads you've started about him.

Get some help. Seriously.

Now, now. Ultimate is just yelling into the ether. His behavior isn't positive, but it's fairly common in 2017 America. There are some corners of twitter you probably haven't seen, Rick. Believe me, Ultimate could be farrrrr worse.

I don't see the salt from Trump's mere existence getting any worse. I believe it will continue to dissipate until it plateaus completely.
