He brings up 2 scenarios where a Christian thinks they are saved and they are not
1) Never having received the spirit of Christ living inside them in the first place (not living as Christ would want them to live, I suppose. These people may not fully love God or their neighbor, and be quick to cast judgement without love towards other Christians, think salvation is by works, Pharisee behavior)
2) Believers that never mature in Christ, and they are still living in the world.
How horrible would it be for a Christian to hear, "Depart from me! I never knew you"

Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and tremblingWhile I don't think these apply to me, nevertheless I feel the above verse is appropriate.
