Came across a very interesting post today by Dr. Michael Heiser, explaining how, sometimes, myths CAN be both historical fact and completely true! But scholars often are inconsistent in the criteria they apply to a given "myth."

Of course, myths are merely stories that are based upon tradition from a written, oral, known, or unknown source. But our modern understanding of what a myth typically is that it's a story that is ENTIRELY or largely made up and fictional. But while many myths are completely or mostly fictional, other myths are based upon true, historical events (see the video). And the Bible is full of myths (ancient stories) that are also historical truth. Many people also seem to confuse the differences between myths that are true, and myths that are entirely (or mostly) fictional, as well as their differences with allegories and metaphors - each type of genre, along with poetry and lyrics, etc., can be found in the Bible - the determining factor typically being found within the context and specifics of the passage in question.
