The Wailing Wall (or Western Wall) in Israel is a small, remaining segment of a far-longer ancient retaining wall, below the famous Temple Mount – where Israel’s (second) Temple of Christ’s day once stood. The temple was eventually destroyed in 70 A.D. by the Romans. It is thought to have been built by Herod the Great (yeah, THAT Herod!), beginning approximately 19 B.C., but completed sometime after his death.
