How can evil exist if a GOOD and LOVING God exists?

The existence of evil and suffering in a world that was created and is under the control of a GOOD and LOVING God - those things make little sense to many people - especially unbelievers. But many Christians struggle with this issue as well - particularly when tragedy, suffering or evil impact them or those they are close to. It's an important question to ponder.
