I believe that the vast majority of what is practiced asserted in churches today as the supposed GIFT of tongues - the echoed babbling and bizarre antics (often a literal freakshow!) are NOT of the Lord. But the question is, does God NEVER use tongues today as a way to communicate in the actual language of one who cannot otherwise understand a missionary's or other Christian's own native language, where the speaker cannot normally speak or understand the language being communicated in. I used to not think this was ever a modern thing- but I've changed my mind. But do I think it is COMMON or an ongoing GIFT - as this is an entirely different question - with my present answer being that I personally don't think so. Or if so, that the gift is definitely not COMMON (as many assert).
So, what ARE tongues and what are they NOT? And is there evidence that God still uses tongues - that is, miraculously enables communication in an actual language wherein two parties cannot normally speak each other's language. See the interesting videos below:
