Circle or Sphere?
Circle or Sphere?
While discussing science and the bible with someone, they said the Bible never states the earth is round, but rather flat. Now I've heard Isaiah used to explain that Scripture states the earth is round, but Isaiah merely states that the earth is a circle. Also I know there is a hebrew word for ball which isn't used, so how does one come to the conclusion based on Isaiah that it's referring to a round earth instead of a flat circular one.

there is not an ancient hebrew word for sphere or ball.
there is a word that is translated ball in isa 22:18, but its is translated to mean a circular pattern in isa 29:3 so the word was probably rendered ball for the benefit of english readers to whom, prior to the invention of the frisbee, throwing a circle would have been a rather silly idea.
