Many of us may never have considered that there are important differences between the roles and approaches of Biblical scholars vs. theologians. And while there most certainly is some overlap, and hopefully, productive interaction between these two groups, their approaches and typically very different. Not to mention that, as the Bible was written over approximately 1,600 years, it is filled with so many events and characters, from a considerable diversity of cultures, times and places, that within these two camps, there is a considerable range of fields of specialties. Many scholars may spend their entire career focused upon key aspects and a relatively narrow area. The more you know about these groups of Scriptural specialists, and the tremendous depth and and level of analysis and research involved (related to the Bible, from a historical, anthropological, archaeological, and even scientific angles), the more you realize how NO other written works in the history of mankind have ever been so scrutinized from academics around the world - and across so many centuries!
