Many people don't realize how much the self-proclaimed prophets of Mormonism (Joseph Smith) and Islam (Muhammad) used almost identical techniques to sell their individual false claims that they had received further (and asserted, more important) - revelations from God. As each man basically responded to skeptics and those they deluded with a "trust me" defense concerning their teachings and the sources of their "revelations."
