THE ANCIENT TOWER OF BABEL
Genesis 11: "Now the whole earth had one language and the same words. 2 And as people migrated from the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there. 3 And they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.” And they had brick for stone, and bitumen for mortar. 4 Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be dispersed over the face of the whole earth.”
Over and over, archaeology has revealed that places and events recorded in the Bible truly existed, as many of their places and remnants STILL exist today. So many B.C.-era ancient towns and cities mentioned in the Bible have been discovered, thus continuing to validate its incredible accuracy. Many had long thought the Bible's story of the Tower of Babel to be but one more ancient myth - that is, until it was archaeologically validated. For about 15 years (through 1914), German archaeologist Robert Koldewey excavated the ruins of the tower's actual location. The site had originally been identified by the famous British Assyriologist and antiquarian scholar Claudius James Rich, in 1811.
